In 2025 I wrote to Andy Burnham with the results of a survey I ran to ask my residents what they expect from bus services in the area. The results were very interesting.
A new fast, direct, service to Manchester city centre was one of the most popular requests, for the benefits it could bring to commuters, families and school children in the areas around Heywood and Middleton. Access to jobs is an important priority for me as your MP.
Buses are still popular and necessary for connecting residents for work, leisure and shopping. However, people also want the services to be modernised to cleaner, greener and more reliable buses.
Around two thirds of people would describe services as’bad’, which is why it is imperative we invest in services which so many in Heywood and Middleton North rely on. But, the good news is that if services are improved the vast majority of people say they will use buses more, which could reduce traffic and pollution on the roads.
