Many constituents have raised the smell from Pilsworth South Landfill, and concerns about their plans to build new facilities on the site.
I have met with the local Community Action Group, which is made of local residents who want to stand up for their own area and are passionate about air quality in the neighbourhood. My thanks go to them for their continued work .
I have written to Rt Hon Steve Reed MP, the Secretary of State for the Environment, on behalf of residents and made representations to Andy Burnham, Metro Mayor for Greater Manchester.
Today’s news is that Rochdale Borough Council has agreed a unanimous motion on the issue (click the image below) which was moved by Heywood Councillor Angela Brown. This means we are unified in opposing further landfill on the site.
Hopefully we can secure long-term reassurance for residents and the future of the Atom Valley site by choosing cleaner, more sustainable options for our waste.
