I’m really pleased to share that I have been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Lucy Powell MP, the Secretary of State for Education. The Prime Minister confirmed the role today, Monday 27th July.
I held a similar role supporting Lucy when she was Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, so I’m delighted to continue working with her as she takes over the reins at the Department for Education.
Education has been one of my top priorities since I was elected, particularly when it comes to making sure that childhood deprivation does not set the course for the rest of a young person’s life.
In this role, I will be supporting the Education Secretary in Parliament and working to deliver her Department’s agenda: the best possible education for every child, every young person and every catchment area.
I’m excited to get to work with Lucy and her team, and to bring the voices of people in Heywood and Middleton North to such a crucial government department.
